“As established by Law No. 20.129, the CNA is responsible for the assessment, accreditation, and promotion of quality in autonomous universities, professional institutes, and technical training centers, as well as in the programs they offer. Its main functions include: a) Managing and resolving institutional accreditation processes for autonomous higher education institutions, and for the undergraduate and graduate programs they offer. b) Developing and establishing quality criteria and standards for institutional accreditation and for undergraduate and graduate programs, according to the type of institution —whether within the technical training or university subsystem— following consultation with the Coordination Committee of the National Quality Assurance System for Higher Education. The CNA also promotes continuous quality improvement in higher education institutions, particularly by identifying, encouraging, and sharing best practices in quality assurance. c) Maintaining public information systems that include all relevant decisions regarding accreditation and authorization processes and providing the National Higher Education Information System with the corresponding data. d) Carrying out any additional activities necessary to fulfill its mandate.”
