Have Universities Failed Teacher Education? Ghana Initiates Framework to Regulate Distance Education (Ghana News Agency, April 14, 2024) The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has initiated stakeholder engagement to solicit input for a draft policy on a framework to regulate distance education in the country. Mr. John Dadzie-Mensah, Director of Accreditation at GTEC, said the decision for the framework was necessitated due to the increasing demand for distance education and the varying challenges affecting the sector. The major components of the new framework included an enabling environment, access, equity, inclusivity, external quality assurance, internal quality assurance, and partnerships.

What is a European Degree and How Would It Work? (Silicon Republic, March 29, 2024) The European Commission has adopted a series of proposals to introduce a European degree eventually. Member States will be aided through the process with a European degree ‘policy lab,’ a dedicated team comprised of education experts, policymakers, accreditation agencies, students, and EU partner organizations, to be set up in 2025. The lab members will iron out the details of the degree.

YÖDAK to Use Its Full Authority (Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation, March 29, 2024) The new chair of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation, and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) said that YÖDAK was determined to use its authority and power against those abusing the system. The statements came amid continued investigations and access related to the ongoing fake diploma scandal.
