Public University Accreditation Is Latest Front in War on Education (Truthout.com, August 29, 2023) The agencies that award accreditation to colleges, universities, and technical and vocational training programs are under fire. Cynthia Jackson Hammond, president of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, told Truthout, “There is a great level of surprise that this is happening and a great deal of frustration and disappointment. Accreditors have always focused on making sure that institutions provide academic support for students so that they can finish their degrees and go on to graduate school or enter the workforce. These political intrusions are unprecedented.”

Florida’s Accreditation Shuffle Begins (Inside Higher Ed, August 30, 2023) The U.S. Department of Education approved one Florida college’s application to change accreditors. A new state law dictates that Florida’s 39 other public colleges do the same.

She will continue to serve her former institution as chancellor. Ms. King began working in her new role on August 1, 2023.

Belle Wheelan Explains College Accreditation Process (Messenger-Inquirer, September 8, 2023) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges President Belle Wheelan spoke about accreditation for post-secondary institutions at a Booster gathering in Owensboro, Ky. “Accreditation is a comprehensive periodic review of everything an institution does,” she said.
