The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) was established in 1981. YÖK has being mainly responsible for the strategic planning of higher education, the coordination between universities, and most importantly establishing and maintaining quality assurance mechanisms.

CHEA's Mission

Council for Higher Education Accreditation serves its members, students, and society through advocacy for the value and

independence of accreditation, recognition of accrediting organizations and commitment to quality in higher education.
