HELP Committee Membership in the 119th Congress
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) announced its Membership for the 119th Congress. The Republicans have the majority in the Senate, and Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) will Chair the Committee. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will serve as the Ranking Member of the Committee. This session sees significant changes, with five new Republican members and three new Democratic members making nearly 40 percent of the Committee members new to HELP.

On January 15, 2025, the House Education and Workforce Committee held its organization meeting and announced the Committee membership. With Republicans holding the majority, Representative Tim Walberg (R-MI) will Chair the Committee, and Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) will continue to serve as the Ranking Member.

The Chair of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee will continue to be Burgess Owens (R-UT), and the Ranking Member will be Alma Adams (D-NC). Representative Adams has significant experience in Higher Education. Burgess Owens will also serve as Vice Chair for the full Committee.
There are five new Members on the House Education Committee from the Republicans and three new members appointed from the Democrats. More than 20 percent of the Members are new to the Committee in the 119th Congress.
Due to the large percentage of new Members on the Senate HELP Committee and the House Committee on Education, there will be a significant opportunity for CHEA to educate Committee Members about accreditation and quality assurance.
