FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(WASHINGTON, DC) – (May 20, 2026)—The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) announced that the CHEA Board of Directors has accepted the Committee on Recognition’s recommendation for CHEA recognition of the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).

Founded in 1940, NAAB serves as the specialized accrediting agency for professional degree programs in architecture in the United States. Through its accreditation process, NAAB establishes national standards for architectural education and promotes continuous improvement, accountability, and public confidence in the preparation of future architects.

NAAB’s application for recognition was reviewed by CHEA’s Committee on Recognition (COR) during its March 2026 meeting. Based on its findings, COR recommended initial recognition of NAAB. The CHEA Board accepted COR’s recommendation and granted recognition on May 4, 2026.

CHEA recognition affirms NAAB’s commitment to academic quality, institutional improvement, and public accountability in architectural education. The recognition also reflects the important role of peer review and accreditation in supporting institutions, students, and the architecture profession.

More information about CHEA recognition is available on the CHEA website.
