The CHEA 2016 Summer Workshop – Examining the Accreditation Space: Accreditation and Its Constituents – will be held July 21-22 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, DC. Workshop and hotel reservations are now open!


Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES) Host Meeting on Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Mexico and the United States. The meeting, held April 11-12, 2016, in Washington, DC, brought together accrediting organizations and quality assurance bodies, higher education associations and government to discuss issues related to advancing accreditation and quality assurance in Mexico and the United States, including ways to strengthen public confidence in higher education quality and ways that the two countries could work together.

£6m EU Project Aims to Stamp Out Cheating in Online Assessment (Times Higher Education, April 14, 2016) “A European Union-funded project aims to revolutionise online assessment by combining anti-plagiarism software with facial, voice and keystroke identification technology. The project consortium involves eight higher education institutions – including the Open University in the UK – plus quality assurance agencies and technology companies and is being led by the OU of Catalonia.”

Toward Better Quality Higher Education (University World News, April 8, 2016) “Numerous indications of an emerging ‘quality crisis’ in higher education are being felt across the globe, including high dropout rates at the early stages of higher education, increasing rates of graduate unemployment and a general perception of lowering academic standards.”

Thirteen State Attorneys General Say Accreditor’s Recognition Should Be Revoked (The Chronicle of Higher Education, April 8, 2016) “The request was made in a letter on Friday to the heads of the U.S. Education Department and the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity.”
