Take Office on July 1, 2015

On July 1, 2015, three new board members and the 2015-2016 Executive Committee of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Board of Directors took office. They were elected during the board's May 4-5, 2015 meeting in Washington, DC.

New members of the board, who will serve three-year terms (2015-2018), are:

  • Rock Jones, President, Ohio Wesleyan University
  • Nancy Marlin, Professor and Provost Emerita, San Diego State University
  • Richard L. Pattenaude, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ashford University

Members of the Executive Committee, who will serve a one-year term (2015-2016), are: James L. Gaudino (Chair), President, Central Washington University; Harold L. Martin, Sr. (Vice Chair), Chancellor, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University; Elsa Núñez (Secretary), President, Eastern Connecticut State University; Satish Tripathi (Treasurer), President, University at Buffalo, State University of New York; David Maxwell (Member-at-Large), President Emeritus, Drake University; and Dorothy Leland (Immediate Past Chair), Chancellor, University of California, Merced.

Dr. Gaudino, who will serve as CHEA’s board chair, became President of Central Washington University in 2009. He was the founding Dean of the College of Communication and Information at Kent State University and previously served as Executive Director of the National Communication Association for 15 years.

“Accreditation is more important than ever in every facet of higher education,” said CHEA President Judith Eaton. “We are deeply appreciative that these individuals will help CHEA address the critical issues ahead.”
