Assistant Secretary of Education Eduardo Ochoa to Address
2011 CHEA Annual Conference

(Washington, DC) – Eduardo Ochoa, the U.S. Department of Educationís Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education, will address the Council for Higher Education Accreditationís 2011 Annual Conference. His remarks will be delivered at 9:15-10:15 am on January 25, 2011 at the Marriott Hotel Washington in Washington, DC, where CHEAís Annual Conference will be held.

Ochoa was confirmed as Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education on June 22, 2010 by the U.S. Senate. In his position, he serves as the Secretary of Educationís chief advisor on higher education issues and administers more than 60 programs, including the Departmentís accreditation division.

“We are very pleased that Dr. Ochoa will speak at our Annual Conference,” said CHEA President Judith Eaton. “We look forward to hearing him address some of the key issues ahead for accreditation.”

Prior to joining the Department, Ochoa served for seven years as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Sonoma State University, part of the California State University system. Previously, he served in academic and administrative positions at Cal State-Fresno, Cal State-Los Angeles and California State Polytechnic University. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the New School for Social Research.

CHEAís 2011 Annual Conference will be held January 24-26 at the Marriott Washington Hotel (1221 22nd Street, NW). The conference will be followed by the CHEA International Seminar, January 26-27.
