CHEA Recognizes Accreditation Commission
for Audiology Education

(Washington, DC) – At a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), held April 30-May 1, 2012 in Washington, DC, the board voted to recognize the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE).

The CHEA-recognized scope of accreditation for ACAE is for Doctor of Audiology degrees awarded by programs in institutions throughout the United States that have the legal authority to confer higher education degrees.

Also at the meeting, the board of directors voted to recognize the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and the American Board of Funeral Services Education (ABFSE) Committee on Accreditation. Both accrediting organizations have been recognized by CHEA since 2001.

Recognition by CHEA means that an accrediting organization meets CHEA’s standards and that its accreditation process is consistent with the quality, improvement and accountability expectations that CHEA has established. CHEA’s Committee on Recognition – appointed by the board of directors and consisting of members of the public, members from accrediting organizations and members from colleges and universities – conducts an in-depth review of eligible accrediting organizations and make recommendations for recognition to the board of directors.

“CHEA carries forward a long tradition that recognition of accrediting organizations is a key strategy to assure quality, accountability and improvement in higher education,” said CHEA President Judith Eaton. “The number of accrediting organizations seeking either initial or continuing CHEA recognition speaks to the value that the higher education community places on self-regulation and peer review.”
