(Washington, DC) –Thomas Cornacchia has joined the staff of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as Vice President for Recognition Services.
The Vice President for Recognition Services’ responsibilities include coordinating and managing CHEA’s recognition policy and process, working with the CHEA Committee on Recognition and providing information to CHEA constituents and the public with regard to CHEA recognition and generating national data and analysis on accreditation.
CHEA is a non-governmental organization that provides national coordination of accreditation. As one of its major functions, CHEA scrutinizes (“recognizes”) accrediting organizations based on standards developed for this purpose. At present, 60 accrediting organizations are recognized by CHEA.
“Tom has worked in higher education accreditation for the past 20 years,” said CHEA President Judith Eaton. “He brings valuable understanding of and experience in accreditation to his position at CHEA.”
Prior to joining CHEA’s staff, Cornacchia served as Director of Operations and Program Development at the Accrediting Bureau for Health Education Schools, where his responsibilities included scheduling and coordination of on-site accreditation evaluations and Commission standards supervision. Previously, he was Director of Accreditation for the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges and held a variety of positions at the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.
