Peer Review by Whom? (Inside Higher Ed, November 2, 2017) “Rand Paul wants to add two people to every federal peer-review panel evaluating research proposals, charged with looking for value to taxpayers. The peer-review system isn’t perfect, but the remedies in the Paul proposal exacerbate existing problems, said Henry Reichman, chair of the American Association of University Professors’ Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure.”

Healthcare Professional Education Goes Online (Marlin Finance Media Room, October 25, 2017) “Both academics and employers stress the importance of an online degree program being accredited. Accreditation assures the oversight of an outside, nongovernmental body that conducts site visits and assesses the quality of faculty, curricula, facilities, student services and finances. Reputable accrediting organizations are recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education.”

An Official in Obama’s Education Dept. Explains Her Move to Lead an Accreditor (Chronicle of Higher Education [Subscription required], October 24, 2017) “In January, [Jamienne] Studley will become president of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities.”

Policy Framework (Higher Learning Advocates, October 2017) “Our higher learning system is lacking a properly functioning quality assurance system.
