Aus Helps VN Strengthen Online Education Quality Checks (Viet Nam News, March 16, 2017) “The Australian government and the Ministry of Education and Training of Việt Nam co-organised a workshop on Thursday to validate a toolkit developed to assist APEC countries in quality checks for online education.”

Appeal Heard Against International Student Fee Ruling (University World News, March 16, 2017) “The reason for the court verdict was that an evaluation of the course by a panel of the Swedish Higher Education Authority, or UKÄ, found it to be of a poor quality, and the court questioned if Mälardalen University College had the right to graduate students in the main course of mathematics, which analytical finance belonged to.”

Can India’s Universities Improve? Accreditation Body Ties up with US Group to Up Standards (Hindustan Times, March 15, 2017) “The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an assessment and accreditation body for higher education institutions in India, has signed a memorandum of affiliation with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) International Quality Group (CIQG) of the US.”

MESMA Delivers a Quality Job For College Merger (FE News, March 14, 2017) “One of the most important considerations for the authorities and senior leadership team throughout the various mergers was maintaining effective quality assurance – indeed, it’s one of the biggest issues colleges are having to deal with as the FE landscape undergoes a radical shift in the face of the area reviews and other institutional changes.”

Plan to Prosecute Firms Who Offer Paid-For Essays to Students (The Irish Times, March 13, 2017) “In a statement, a spokesman for Mr. Bruton said Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) is to develop new guidelines for this area. He said the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Amendment) Bill was also due to give the body ‘specific powers to prosecute “essay mills” and other forms of cheating.’”

BQA [Botswana] Fingers Old Act for Non-Accredited Programmes (Mmegi Online, March 10, 2017) “The past weeks have seen a spate of protests by tertiary education learners over a number of issues top among them being the non-accredited courses.”
