Court Rules Against Accrediting Agency (Diverse Issues in Higher Education, February 21, 2017) “The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools – the beleaguered accrediting agency that had oversight for two recently collapsed for-profit schools – lost its bid Tuesday to stop the U.S. Department of Education from terminating its federal recognition.”

D.C. Attorney General Intervenes in Lawsuit Against Department of Education (Legal Newsline, February 21, 2017) “District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced that he has motioned to intervene, along with four other state attorneys general, in a lawsuit to defend the Department of Education. The department chose not to renew credentials for the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.”

Future of CCSF’s Accreditor in Hands of Betsy DeVos (San Francisco Examiner, February 21, 2017) “The U.S. Department of Education has recommended that the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges retain its authority over community colleges for another 18 months despite complaints that the agency failed to meet standards, treated City College of San Francisco unfairly and lacked transparency. A federal commission called the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity, or NACIQI, will vote on the recommendation later this week and pass on a decision to DeVos, who has final say.”

Lawmakers, Failure Won’t Do – Our View (The Daily Advertiser, February 21, 2017) “If colleges or schools lose accreditation, if young people cannot be adequately educated in Louisiana, what would we have accomplished?”
